Sound Healing Yoga of Sounds Weekend Immersion in the House of Dharma, Zagreb with Shir Shemesh
|
Sound healing is a fascinating field of practice and study that have been included in every culture throughout the history of humankind. Sounds touch us and influence us to the depth of our core. They affect our emotions, state of mind and our physical body; when we hear a cheerful music we become happy, and when we hear sad music, that affect us too respectively. In Sound Healing we thrive to harness this profound power for our own process of healing, and raise our state of consciousness.
In the ancient culture of the Hindu valley, sounds held a very high place in the day-to-day life, as well as, in the spiritual aspect of life. According to this way of thinking sounds have different levels of existence, and what we perceive as audible sounds is only the most superficial aspect of their manifestation; for example, thoughts, ideas and images are other forms of sound. In this weekend we will learn about the knowledge connected with the science of modern physics on sounds, and about the ancient perspective of the Sanskrit language on sounds. We will explore how vocal sounding can help us to release energetic and emotional blockages. Through playful use of our voice we can release stagnated emotions and thoughts, and connect with our voice to better express ourselves. From the Yogic perspective, we will get inspired to have our own Mantra practice, as well as how to corporate sounds and Mantras in our own Yoga practice. Mantra repetition called Japa, can be a fundamental aspect of Asana and Pranayama practice. We will connect Mantras with the Chakra System in different ways. Each Chakra has different sounds that can help to unleash the potential knowledge and energy from this centre. We will learn some of the most fundamental Vedic Mantras, and some of the Bija Mantras, that can be used to provoke specific type of energies, that are needed in our life. Kirtan, or Sankirtan, will be practice a few times a day during this week. This practice is easy and joyous, based on a simple Mantra, which is repeated by a group of people in a form of a catchy song. It has the potential to transcend negativity, elevate our state of mind and bring us to a state of ecstasy, bliss-like. The style of Asana that will be practiced mostly during the weekend is Dharma Yoga. Dharma Yoga is a heart opening and mind-expanding yoga practice, inspired by Sri Dharma Mittra, who has been teaching yoga for over 50 years. It is a mixed style of Hatha and Vinyasa, aiming to stimulate all the energy and consciousness centres of the body. This journey is designed to enrich the knowledge of Yoga teachers, who wishes to deepen their experience in Sound Healing, Mantras, Yoga Asana, Pranayama and Yoga philosophy. It can also fit for intermediate yoga practitioners, who are interested to go deeper with the path of yoga. Syllabus: + Theory of the physics of sound waves + Playful exploration of sounding with our own voice + Using taping and sounding together + The philosophy of sound according to Vedic and Yogic thought + Learning a few Vedic Mantras by heart, there meaning and proper pronunciation + Proper pronunciation of the Sanskrit Alphabet + Daily Kirtan singing + Singing the Indian classical scale + Cooperating Mantras in our yoga and Pranayama practice + Laya and Nada Yoga theory and Meditation |

About the teacher:
For Shir, practicing yoga is like going into nature and breathing clean air after staying in the city for too long: “Yoga teaches that there is a lot of peace and joy inside each one of us that doesn’t depend on anything external. Yoga is a spiritual path for my life.” In his quest of searching more subtle experience of yoga and understanding how to strive towards yoga, Shir looked for a living master. At that time he found his Guru, Sri Dharma Mittra. By meeting him Shir felt that many question marks about how to live yoga fully were answered. That meeting helped Shir to have a rapid progress in his own Sadhana (practice of yoga towards self-realization). Shir completed the advance teacher training with Dharma Mittra, with eternal feeling of gratefulness. Shir was studying and playing music for over 20 years. His main focus was historical performance practice of the Baroque, and Middle Age periods. With the intense Yogic occupation, Shir made a transition from a professional classical musician to the field of Sound Healing, Mantra Singing and Kirtan. Thus exploring how sounds, music and Mantras can be used for our own process of healing and spiritual evolution. Through this exploration he discovered that the most profound field of sounds is Laya Yoga, which is focusing on the experience of inner sounds and focusing our attention on them. |
